Drama and Theatre video auditions

Drama and Theatre option b video auditions

If you would like to study A level Drama and Theatre, and you have not taken GCSE Drama, you can submit a short video audition, in line with our entry requirements, Option B. Please refer to the A level subject page for more information.

Audition guidance

Auditions for students who do not have a Drama GCSE will take place via the submission of a short video. This is simply to give us a sense of the type of performer you are, so please don't feel nervous.

Please record a video of yourself performing a modern, naturalistic monologue from a published play written after 1970. The monologue should be between 1 and 2 minutes long.

You will need to learn the monologue in full and perform it with character and complete conviction when you are ready to record.

There are many monologues available online; however, if you are struggling to find one, please email Lydia Ayers for support.

Filming guidance

Before recording, please follow the guidelines below to ensure you capture your performance as well as possible.

  • Try to be somewhere relatively quiet (no TV on in the background, etc.!)
  • Record landscape format, not portrait format
  • State your name clearly at the start of your video recording and explain what your monologue is and where it is from.

Additional written submission

In your cover email with your audition video, please tell us a little bit about yourself, any past experience you have on stage, any youth theatre groups you have worked with, or school shows you have been in, and what sort of theatre you love.

Submission details

Your video should be submitted by email, using the button below, by 12 noon on Monday, 13 July 2026.

I have made so many new friends from different schools who share similar interests with me. Hills Road really develops you as a person; getting you ready for the world of work.
