GCSE grade 6 or merit in Art and Design or similar subject title. Not included: Art & Design (Photography) or Design Technology.

Our course is designed to build on the skills and enthusiasm you bring. We will help you acquire new techniques, broaden your knowledge, and help give you the confidence you need to realise your full creative potential.
The Art and Design department is a lively and friendly teaching and learning environment, where individual ideas, experimentation and risk-taking are encouraged. All the staff are practising artists and have a wide range of specialist interests and expertise. You will have one main teacher and there is flexibility for you to try a very exciting range of methods of working. Weekly drop-in sessions provide additional individual guidance and support. Students are very well supported in their progression to Further and Higher Education in Art and Design.

A level Art and Design allows you to progress an exciting and extensive range of creative and technical skills. It prepares you for a range of courses, particularly those that demand problem-solving skills and technical dexterity. Opportunities to collaborate in shared learning experiences through group discussion are embedded throughout the course to build confidence and teamwork.
You will also gain a strong understanding of historic and contemporary visual art practice, through supporting contextual studies. Individual exploration and development of your personal skills and creative directions is a special aspect of this subject.
