Culture Fest

Celebrating the diversity of our college community

Culture Fest is one of the highlights of the Hills Road calendar, bringing students and staff together to celebrate the incredible range of cultures, traditions and heritage represented across our college community.

Culture fest

At Hills Road, we believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths.

Culture Fest provides a space to celebrate different backgrounds, encourage understanding and create meaningful connections across our college community. It reflects our commitment to inclusion, respect and belonging, while giving students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and event management skills through planning and delivering the festival.

Each year, hundreds of students take part, making Culture Fest a memorable celebration of creativity, identity and community spirit.

Culture Fest

Organised by the Student Council in partnership with student societies and staff, the week-long festival showcases the talents, experiences and identities of students through performances, food, art, music and interactive activities. It is an opportunity to learn from one another, share traditions and celebrate what makes our community unique.

Whether you're performing on stage, running a stall, trying food from a different part of the world or simply joining in, Culture Fest is about creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

What happens during Culture Fest?

Every year is different, but Culture Fest typically includes:

Live music, dance and cultural performances from students

Interactive activities such as henna art, cultural crafts and games

Society stalls celebrating cultures from around the world

A world heritage map where students can celebrate their family roots

Traditional clothing and flag displays

Opportunities to discover new cultures, languages and traditions

International food tasting from student societies and the College café

The festival transforms the Quad into a vibrant hub of colour, music and conversation, with students sharing everything from family recipes and traditional dress to performances and cultural stories.

Student-led and community-driven

Culture Fest is led by students, for students.

The Student Council works with cultural societies and volunteers to coordinate performances, organise activities and create an event that reflects the diversity of the Hills Road community.

Students are encouraged to get involved by:

  • Performing music, dance or spoken word
  • Hosting a cultural stall or activity
  • Sharing traditional food or customs
  • Wearing traditional clothing
  • Helping to organise events throughout the week
  • Supporting and celebrating fellow students
