Eco Week is an annual event held during the Spring term at Hills Road Sixth Form College, dedicated to raising environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among students and staff.
Eco Week provides a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to engage with sustainability in a practical and meaningful way. Each year, the event grows bigger and better, reinforcing the college’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Launched in 2023, Eco Week is packed with a variety of environmentally themed activities designed to inspire positive change.
HR4.5 Fun Run
A much-loved highlight of the week is HR4.5, a 4.5km fun-run, where members of our community run, walk or cycle to raise money for environmental charities. Past causes have included the World Wildlife Fund and the Rainforest Alliance.
Sustainable swaps and sales
Throughout the week, students take part in initiatives such as book swaps, where donated books are displayed for others to take home, promoting reuse and reducing waste; and an Eco-Fair featuring a clothes swap where unwanted garments are exchanged among students and staff, with any leftovers donated to charity. Local eco-conscious businesses and artists also take part, offering sustainable products ranging from handmade jewellery to eco-friendly household items and artisan soaps.
Talks
The College hosts speakers from a wide range of backgrounds to offer important insights on a wide range of topics around sustainability.
