On Monday 13 January the Hills Road Careers team hosted an event in which Year 13 students had a 'real-world' interview with a professional, in collaboration with Form the Future CIC.

Held across the course of the day, fifty interview slots were quickly filled by enthusiastic students eager to gain practical experience.

Each student participated in a professional-style job interview, providing them with valuable insights into the interview process, enhancing their communication skills, and giving them real-world practice.

The aim was to help Year 13s in building their confidence for future opportunities when pursuing employment: whether they wish to take those next steps via university, a gap year, an apprenticeship or something else. In November, the team also organised 270 mock entry interviews in November for students who are applying to university.

"Hills Road is committed to providing students with practical experiences that enhance their readiness for the professional world, no matter what path they choose," explains Bekki Clark, Head of Careers.

Held as part of the newly introduced Hills Apprenticeship Sessions programme, the mock employment interview day was organised by our dedicated Careers team and Form the Future CIC, a partner organisation which helps young people to "discover and prepare for opportunities in the high-growth sectors on their doorstep".

The Hills Careers service is a team of qualified and experienced advisers helping our students to plan next steps and support them in the process of their chosen route. The Apprenticeship Sessions started in September 2024, and are held weekly to inform students about apprenticeships and support those who may be interested in pursuing an apprenticeship after A levels.

Jo Trump, Principal reflected on the event's success: "The employment interview day was so well-attended, which was wonderful to see. Clearly, there is an appetite to take up the opportunities offered by our Careers team - all of which are carefully planned to boost our students' preparation, awareness, and confidence for the future."

Special thanks are due to the volunteers from various professional fields who generously contributed their time and expertise to conduct the interviews!

Well done to all and we look forward to sharing news about even more initiatives to support student development and career preparedness. Hills students can discover the latest opportunities when logged in to Sharepoint, on the Careers service page.
