Hills Road Sixth Form College celebrated the achievements of its Year 13 students on Wednesday 7 May at the annual Student Awards Ceremony, recognising exceptional contributions to College life during their two years of study.

Earlier this year, staff and students nominated Year 13s for prizes highlighting our core values: Creative & Confident Learners, Resourceful & Resilient Individuals and Responsible & Active Citizens.

The ceremony, held during Year 13’s final week of teaching, highlights personal development and community impact across a range of categories.

Creative & Confident Learners

Awarded for originality, initiative and self-assurance in academic or creative contexts.

Awarded for outstanding positive contribution to the College or wider community.

Today is an opportunity to celebrate the qualities that lie at the heart of a Hills education—curiosity, resourcefulness, resilience, and collaboration. We are proud of the individuals you have become, and confident in the contribution you will make beyond Hills Road.

2025 Jack Merritt Award

Presented in memory of alumnus Jack Merritt

The ceremony also included the presentation of the Jack Merritt Award, which honours Jack, a former student of Hills Road who tragically lost his life in the 2019 London Bridge terror attack.

This very special award is given to a student who embodies Jack’s values of integrity, justice and service to others.

2025 Recipient: Barney Jones

Principal Jo Trump presented the ceremony, and commended Year 13 not only for their academic focus but for the wider contribution they have made to the College community.

Principal Trump closed the event by thanking both staff and students for their efforts over the past two years, and wished all Year 13 students the very best for the upcoming A Level examinations and beyond.

The College looks forward to celebrating the Class of 2025 at their official Leavers’ Event on Thursday 26 June.
