As we begin 2026, we wanted to take a moment to share some positive news from across college sport and highlight the fantastic commitment and achievements of our students. With a busy academic period underway, this brief update offers a snapshot of recent success and a reminder of the important role sport plays in college life!

Sports highlights w/c 14 January

It was a busy and successful week across college sport, with fixtures taking place in basketball, football, rugby, volleyball, badminton and netball. Teams delivered strong performances both home and away, highlighted by an important cup win for men’s basketball.

Special mention to the Hills Men’s Basketball team who secured a hard-fought 58–52 victory against The North School in the Dynamik National Cup playoff round one. The result sees the team progress through to the next round of the competition.

Results Round-Up

Mixed Volleyball:

Barent and Southgate 3–2 Hills Road

A closely contested match that went to a tense final set, with Hills narrowly missing out.

Women’s Rugby:

One win and one loss in two very competitive fixtures during an away Round Robin tournament

Men’s Rugby:

Hills Road 17–10 Sigma Sixth

A high-quality encounter, with Hills producing a strong performance to claim a deserved win.

Mixed Badminton:

Newham College 2–8 Hills Road

A confident away victory in London, securing back-to-back wins.

Netball (2s):

USP Seevic 64–32 Hills Road

A challenging away fixture against strong opposition, with a resilient performance from the team.

Women’s Football:

North Hertfordshire 1–7 Hills Road

An emphatic away win, with the team delivering a dominant attacking display.

Men’s Football:

Hills Blues 6–0 Hills Reds

A convincing local derby victory for the Blues, taking them to the top of the table.

Men’s Basketball (League)

Hills Road 83–46 ONE Sixth Form

Back-to-back games saw the team start strongly in the league before following up with their cup success.

A huge well done to all teams and staff involved in another excellent week of college sport.

Due to exams, there will be no fixtures over the next two weeks. Competitive sport returns on 4 February. Best of luck to all Year 13 students sitting their mock exams.
