Introduction to Spanish

Let’s dive into Spanish language and culture! Gain in-depth knowledge of the culture and society of Spain and speak a foreign language fluently. A course rooted in Spanish-speaking culture and current affairs, where you will develop your understanding and fluency in Spanish. If you dream of speaking fluently and impressively in a language spoken by 450 million people in the world, and perhaps even working abroad, studying a language can help you to achieve these goals.

Entry requirements

  • Subject grades: option a

    GCSE Grade 6 in Spanish.

  • Subject grades: option b

    applicant is bilingual or has recently lived in a Spanish-speaking country (eligibility will be discussed with the applicant if they are qualified to attend a guidance meeting).

  • Required Admissions Score

    The indicative Minimum Entry Admissions Score for Spanish is 58.

About the Course

Spanish will make you a more desirable employee and increase your job prospects. Learning a second language is also proven to improve your brain! Debates and discussions in the classroom will give you a broad perspective and in-depth knowledge on a wide range of issues about Hispanic society.

Native speaking Language Assistants in the Modern Languages department are available to support you with small group conversation work.

Course information

Studying a foreign language will equip you with a range of skills that are invaluable in the world of work. You will also gain in-depth knowledge of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.

The lessons will be intellectually stimulating and challenging as well as varied and interesting. You will work individually, in pairs or as part of a group. We attach great importance to your independent study skills.
