The NEU has today confirmed that it is suspending the industrial action planned for later this week. This action was in response to the pay disparity across the 16-19 sector, that saw government funding provided for 16-19 schools & academies, but not for non-academised Sixth Form Colleges such as Hills Road.

After discussions last week, the NEU will now ballot its members to assess support for any further industrial action. Strikes have been suspended whilst this ballot take place.

This means further industrial action cannot be ruled out, although we very much hope it can be avoided.

In the meantime, the College is grateful to all those who engaged with the campaign over the pay disparity in the sector, by writing to their MP. The important principle of equal pay funding for all 16-19 providers, regardless of the designation, has been established for next year.
