Two Hills Road students, James and Shreya, recently took centre stage when they delivered a powerful presentation to College staff about the urgent importance of climate change and how both teaching and support staff can embed it across the curriculum and in their everyday work.
Speaking with confidence and passion, both students ran through climate basics, climate justice, climate anxiety and climate education. They highlighted the growing impact of global warming on young people’s futures and emphasised that tackling climate change is not just a scientific issue, but one that connects with all subjects.
Staff described the presentation as “thought-provoking” and “inspiring,” with many committing to reflect on how they could adapt lessons to raise awareness of sustainable practices and engage students in discussions about solutions. Teachers were encouraged to follow a QR code link to make this climate education pledge:
'I pledge to make changes to my teaching to make sure young people are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to take action on the climate crisis.'
Chris Graham, Head of Sustainability at the College, praised James and Shreya for their leadership, noting that their initiative reflects the College's ongoing commitment to empowering students to have a voice in shaping a more sustainable future. He said, “Climate change is an issue that affects every generation, but it is young people who will live with the consequences the longest.
