Writing Poetry : Imagined Places one-day workshop

The Writing Poetry : Imagined Places workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced poets who seek to find escapism through the art of poetry.

About the course

This one-day workshop is

During this one-day workshop you will be invited to create your own unique urban or rural scenes, cities and metropolises as you work on your poems. You will take part in discussions about how to create a strong sense of place and scenery in your work, and experiment with writing about familiar cities as well as places you have never been to - real and imagined.

What are the challenges of writing about a very familiar place?

What can you discover by writing about a place you have never been to, or by inventing a completely fictional one?

Throughout the day you will experiment with ways to create concrete scenery in your poems, paying particular attention to rhythm, sounds, tangible objects, visual elements, ways of speech and images that evoke a strong sense of taste and smell.
