Lessons will be taught in college, but students can also access them online if they prefer.  The course is designed for students who wish to learn about the history of this country in a structured, rigorous fashion. If you enjoy reading historical fiction and visiting castles and cathedrals, then this is the course for you!

About the course

During the autumn term, the course will focus on Anglo-Saxon England up to and including the Norman Conquest. This was the time when the country was settled by English-speaking people and became Christian. Students will explore how they resisted the Vikings and built up the first English state, only to succumb to Duke William and his knights in 1066.

The backbone of each lesson will be an illustrated lecture focusing on a key question. There will be opportunities to examine primary sources and debate historical interpretations. Come along and get to know your country better! Optional trips will be arranged, including one to Westminster Abbey.
