Introduction to Media Studies

Learn to engage critically with the wide range of media you encounter in everyday life. The A level Media Studies course gives you a broad experience of many different aspects of the media, plus the opportunity to carry out your own research and produce your own print and video products.

About the Course

The A level Media Studies course offers you experience of a range of media forms, including newspapers, video games, music video, advertising and online media. You can also work creatively to produce print and video products. Media Studies equips you with the skills and knowledge to engage critically with the wide range of media you encounter in everyday life.

You will learn to use digital video cameras and digital editing equipment to create your own video work. There will also be opportunities for trips and extra-curricular activities.

Course information

You will gain a deeper insight into how the media works, gaining understanding of production, distribution and exchange. You will begin to look at media products differently and from a more analytical viewpoint. It’s a very varied course and the topics studied are up to date and topical. It’s also a really enjoyable subject that values practical coursework and application of theory equally.
