Students at Hills Road Sixth Form College have been recognised in in this year’s Isaac Physics Senior Physics Challenge (SPC), a prestigious national programme run by the University of Cambridge.

The challenge, taken up by thousands of Year 12 students across the country, involves working through a series of extremely demanding physics problems on the Isaac Physics platform. The top students nationwide are then recognised with awards and opportunities thanks to the organisers.

Year 12 student Thehan De Silva placed in the top 50 students nationwide and was therefore selected to attend the SPC summer residential. Held at Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory, the residential brought together some of the UK’s most promising young physicists for four days of challenging academic sessions and collaboration.

Meanwhile, two further students, who preferred to remain anonymous, were each awarded Diamond Award certificates, meaning they were ranked among the top 150 students nationally – a brilliant achievement in itself.

Reflecting on the students’ success, Maider Elicegui-Sarasola (Physics Lab Technician) commented:

“These results really speak to the students’ hard work and love for the subject. It’s inspiring to see them take on such a tough national challenge and come out with this level of recognition.”
