Creativity took centre stage at Hills Road on Wednesday 7 October, as 52 Year 12 Drama and Theatre students enjoyed a day of hands-on workshops led by professional theatre practitioners.
Students worked with Amy and Eve from Tusk Theatre, an innovative theatre company specialising in cinematic physical theatre and storytelling. Drawing on their training at East 15 Acting School, the practitioners introduced students to techniques involving movement, mime and ensemble performance, inspired by theatre companies including Gecko, Frantic Assembly and DV8. The workshop offered students the opportunity to explore new approaches to storytelling and develop their understanding of Gecko's distinctive style, which forms part of the AQA Drama syllabus.
Students also took part in an intensive actor training workshop led by award-winning theatre director Alex Sutton from Citric Acid Productions, exploring techniques inspired by the Odin Teatret approach. Alex has worked across theatre, musical theatre and opera, with productions staged at prestigious venues including the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Bristol Old Vic. Drawing on his extensive industry experience, he encouraged students to explore physical expression, collaboration and creative ownership of their performances.
The workshops provided a valuable opportunity for students to learn directly from experienced theatre professionals, build confidence and develop their practical performance skills, while gaining insight into the creative processes used in the professional theatre industry.
